Takeoff Overview
The takeoff workspace is where you measure and quantify items from your construction plans. It combines AI-powered detection with professional manual tools.

Workflow Options
BuildVision AI supports two workflow styles:
AI-First Workflow
- Upload documents
- Run AI detection
- Review and accept/reject detections
- Fill in any gaps with manual tools
Best for plans with standard symbols and clear drawings. Saves 60-80% of manual work.
Manual-First Workflow
- Upload documents
- Set scale via calibration
- Draw measurements manually
- Optionally run AI to catch missed items
Best for unique plans, hand-drawn sketches, or when you need exact control.
Units & Scale
BuildVision AI supports multiple unit systems:
| Unit | Use Case |
|---|---|
| ft (feet) | US construction (default) |
| m (meters) | International / metric plans |
| in (inches) | Detail drawings |
| cm (centimeters) | Metric details |
Setting Scale
Scale can be set three ways:
- Auto-detect - AI reads scale from drawing (when available)
- Calibration tool - Draw a known dimension
- Manual entry - Type a scale ratio (e.g., 1:48, 1/4"=1')
⚠️
Always verify the scale before measuring. An incorrect scale means all measurements will be wrong.
