Creating Projects
Start a new project and set it up for success.
Quick Create
Open New Project
Click + New Project from:
- The Projects page header
- The dashboard quick actions
- Any project list view
Enter Project Details

Set Status
Choose the initial status:
- Planning (default) - still bidding/estimating
- Active - work already started
Create
Click Create Project to save.
Project Details in Depth
Location Information
Adding an address helps with:
- Finding projects on the map view
- Weather-based scheduling
- Territory management
- Directions for your team
Enter a full address or just city/state for privacy.
Client Information
Store client details for easy reference:
- Name - Person or company
- Email - For sending quotes and updates
- Phone - Contact number
- Company - Business name if applicable
- Notes - Special instructions or preferences
Budget Setup
Set an initial budget to track against:

Using Project Templates
Save time with templates for common project types:
Create a Template
- Set up a project with your typical structure
- Add standard stages and tasks
- Go to Project Settings → Save as Template
- Name your template (e.g., "Kitchen Remodel", "Room Addition")
Use a Template
- Click New Project
- Select From Template
- Choose your template
- Customize as needed
Templates copy stages, tasks, and default documents - not client info or takeoffs.
Importing Projects
From Spreadsheet
Import multiple projects at once:
- Go to Projects → Import
- Download the CSV template
- Fill in your project data
- Upload the completed file
- Review and confirm import
From Email
Forward project inquiries to your account email:
- BuildVision creates a draft project
- Extracts client info from the email
- Attaches any documents
- You review and finalize
Organizing Projects
Naming Conventions
Use consistent names for easy searching:
Good examples:
- "123 Main St - Smith Kitchen Remodel"
- "2024-03 - Johnson Addition"
- "Acme Corp - Phase 2 Buildout"
Bad examples:
- "New Project"
- "Kitchen"
- "Job 1"
Tags and Categories
Add tags to filter and group projects:
- By Type: Residential, Commercial, Renovation
- By Client: Builder name, repeat customers
- By Scope: Kitchen, Bath, Addition, New Build
Filter by tags in the project list.
What's Next After Creating
Once your project exists:
- Upload documents - Add plans and specs
- Run takeoff - Measure quantities
- Create quote - Build an estimate
- Add team members - Assign people
- Set up stages - Plan the work
Troubleshooting
Q: Can I edit project details later?
Yes, click the project name or go to Project Settings to edit any field.
Q: Can I delete a project?
Yes, but only Admins and Owners can delete. Go to Project Settings → Delete Project. This cannot be undone.
Q: How many projects can I have?
Unlimited projects on all plans. Archived projects don't count against any limits.
