Uploading Documents

Multiple ways to get your files into BuildVision.

Upload Methods

Drag and Drop

The easiest way:

  1. Open the Document Center
  2. Drag files from your computer
  3. Drop onto the browser window
  4. Wait for upload to complete

Works with multiple files at once.

Click to Upload

Traditional file picker:

  1. Click Upload button
  2. Select files from your computer
  3. Click Open
  4. Files begin uploading

Supported File Types

PDF is recommended for construction plans - it preserves scale and quality.

Upload Settings

Project Assignment

Choose where documents go:

  • Select project during upload
  • Or upload to general library
  • Move between projects anytime

Duplicate Detection

When uploading a file that already exists:

  • System warns about duplicate
  • Choose to replace or keep both
  • Based on file hash, not name

Multi-Page PDFs

When you upload a multi-page PDF:

Upload Completes

PDF is processed automatically.

Pages Split

Each page becomes a separate document:

  • Named "Original Name - Page 1, 2, 3..."
  • Thumbnails generated for each

Organize

Rename pages for clarity:

  • "Floor Plan - Level 1"
  • "Floor Plan - Level 2"
  • "Roof Plan"

Keep pages together? Upload to a "Plan Set" and pages stay grouped but individually accessible.

Bulk Upload

For many files at once:

  1. Select multiple files (up to 50)
  2. Drag to upload zone
  3. Progress shows for each file
  4. Review all when complete

Folder Upload

Upload an entire folder:

  1. Click Upload Folder
  2. Select folder from computer
  3. Folder structure preserved
  4. All files upload in batch

After Upload

Quick Actions

Right after upload, you can:

  • Rename the file
  • Assign to project
  • Change document type
  • Open in Takeoff (for plans)

Notifications

Team members can be notified:

  • When documents are added to their projects
  • Configure in project notification settings

Troubleshooting

Q: Upload seems stuck

Large files take time. Check:

  • Internet connection
  • File size vs. limit
  • Browser not blocked

Q: File type not supported

Convert to supported format:

  • CAD → export to PDF
  • HEIC → convert to JPG

Q: Duplicate warning but it's a new file

Two files have identical content. Check:

  • Is it really a new version?
  • Different name but same file?
  • Override if intentional duplicate
