Assemblies

Assemblies

Assemblies are pre-built bundles of materials and labor for common construction items. Instead of manually adding each component, select an assembly and the system expands it into all required line items.

What's an Assembly?

An assembly represents a complete construction element. For example, a "Standard Interior Door" assembly includes:

  • Door slab
  • Door frame
  • Hinges (3x)
  • Lockset
  • Door stop
  • Installation labor

When you count 10 doors in your takeoff, the assembly automatically calculates quantities for all components.

Using Assemblies

  1. From Takeoff - After measuring, click "Assign Assembly" and select from the library
  2. Variables - Some assemblies have variables (width, height, thickness) that adjust quantities
  3. Override - You can modify individual line items after expansion

Assembly Library

BuildVision includes 40+ pre-seeded assemblies across trades:

  • Water Closet (Standard/ADA)
  • Lavatory (Wall/Pedestal/Vanity)
  • Kitchen Sink
  • Water Heater (40/50/75 gal)
  • Floor Drain

Doors & Frames

  • Interior Door (wood, hollow metal)
  • Exterior Door
  • Fire-Rated Door

Creating Custom Assemblies

Admins can create custom assemblies:

  1. Go to Settings > BOQ > Assemblies
  2. Click New Assembly
  3. Add components with quantities and formulas
  4. Set trade and CSI code
  5. Save to library

Variables

Assemblies support variables for dynamic calculations:

Component: Drywall
Quantity Formula: ${width} * ${height} * 2 / 32 * 1.1

Common variables:

  • width, height, depth - Dimensions
  • quantity - Count from takeoff
  • area - Calculated area
  • perimeter - Calculated perimeter
